Gabapentin Action Mechanism
The accurate mechanism of action of Gabapentin is not known till date but in some cases, it is believed to act by causing an increase in the synthesis of GABA in neurons. While in other case, Gabapentin is found to act by playing a crucial role in functioning of calcium channels in brain.
The accustomed dosage of Gabapentin suggested in most cases to manage seizures in adults is 300 mg three times a day. Gabapentin should be taken at similar time each day for accurate results and best activity.
Along with treating seizures and neuropathic pain, Gabapentin can also alleviate spasticity and pain observed in multiple sclerosis, menopausal symptoms and hot flashes.
Gabapentin is not the right medication for relieving your problems in case you suffer from any allergies or severe clinical consequences such as kidney disorders. It’s better to avoid Gabapentin during breastfeeding or pregnancy since; it may result in some grave health effects.
Gabapentin Side effects
Common side effects usually observed in individuals on Gabapentin treatment include tremors, slurred speech, gain in weight, constipation, difficulty in walking, nausea or vomiting and problem in controlling movements of muscle.
Side effects associated with Gabapentin that generally fall under serious health complications include severe allergic responses such as itching, swelling of face, lips and tongue, hives or skin rash and drastic mood alterations such as thinking of suicide or death.
